Young carers recently enjoyed an action-packed three day trip at Blackwell Adventure, Bromsgrove, kindly organised by John Hughes from the Rotary Club of Royal Leamington Spa and funded by North Worcestershire Rotary Club.

The trip, which took place across three days from 15-17 August, involved a whole host of fun and exciting activities, including ‘the space hopper grand national’, orienteering, grass sledging, zip wire, abseiling and go karting, followed by toasting marshmallows around the campfire.

Vicky Parker, YSS Worcestershire Young Carers keyworker who attended the residential, said: “Wow, what a trip! We took 13 young carers to Blackwell Adventure and it was great to see everyone letting loose and getting stuck into the games and activities.”

A young carer who enjoyed the break said: “I really loved the trip to Blackwell. It was really fun to try new things… these memories will definitely stay with me for a long time, thanks YSS!”

Worcestershire Young Carers, a service delivered by YSS (Your Support Service) since 2003, supports more than 450 young carers every year. The trip to Blackwell Adventure formed part of an extensive summer programme of activities, designed to offer young carers the opportunity to have a break away from their caring roles whilst experiencing new things, and involved fishing, a day out at Drayton Manor theme park, taking a trip to the seaside and going horse riding.

Lorraine Preece, YSS Chief Executive, said: “It’s great to see so many young carers have enjoyed themselves during this year’s summer activities! We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at The North Worcestershire Rotary Club for funding the trip to Blackwell Adventure, and to everyone involved in making this year’s summer programme of events happen. It’s so important for young carers to be able to enjoy a break from their caring responsibilities, kick back and have some fun!”
