  • Why work for us

Why work for us

Why work for YSS

Our strength as an organisation lies in the quality of our people, they are our biggest asset. Everyone at YSS contributes to making a difference to the lives of our service users. It is the quality of our people, the passion and dedication they give every day that sets us apart as an organisation. We're confident, warm, and we go the extra mile with good humour.

As part of our commitment to making YSS a great place to work, we offer the following benefits:

  • Annual leave of 24 days rising with length of service to 26 days
  • Pension scheme
  • Health and wellbeing plan
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • Occupational sick pay scheme
  • Flexible working

We believe in a work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between work-life and home-life is incredibly important and something everyone should strive to achieve. A healthy work-life balance allows staff to enjoy life more.

We know that our performance as an organisation is dependent upon the level of skill and professionalism of our staff.  Our aim is to encourage a culture of continuous professional development, where staff have ownership of their own development and are able to explore their career aspirations.  We support personal development, identifying ongoing training and developmental needs and addressing performance as appropriate. Our policy is to train and develop staff, ensuring they have the tools to carry out their role effectively and at the same time give job satisfaction.

In addition to a robust induction programme, we provide ongoing training relevant to the needs of the individual and the business. For example:

  • NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming)
  • Restorative Justice
  • Protective Behaviours
  • Sexual Health
  • Presentation and public speaking
  • Solihull Approach to Parenting
  • Emergency first aid at work

Staff feedback when asked for three words to best describe YSS, included:

Transparent, caring, innovative

Friendly, approachable and supportive

Diligent, inventive, considerate

Empowering, inclusive, impactful

Recruitment of new staff

Our aim is always is to attract and retain quality people, nurture and develop them and in doing so, inspire and motivate them.

We are always looking for individuals with fresh ideas to join us - people who share our values and have the ability and passion to make a difference to people’s lives.

The Application Process

We adopt a non-discriminatory approach to the recruitment of new staff. All advertised jobs will have a job description listing the main duties of the post and a person specification describing the skills, knowledge and experience needed to do the job.

Applicants will have access to and be able to download the relevant job description and person specification, guidance notes on how to complete an application form, information on the role and service.  Details of the closing and interview dates will also be available together with contact details for any queries.

Selection and Interview

We aim to ensure that our selection process is fair. Short listing will be carried out by at least two people where possible and candidates will be evaluated against the criteria in the job description and person specification.    Candidates can expect to be interviewed by at least two trained members of staff who will ask a set of competency-based questions, based around the skills required for the role. In some cases we will also use additional assessment methods such as presentations or a practical test but if this is the case we will advise applicants. We aim to let applicants know as soon as possible the outcome of their interview.

Equal Opportunities

We ask all applicants to complete an equal opportunities monitoring form and this information is confidential and only used for monitoring purposes.  We will endeavour, through appropriate training, to ensure the staff involved in making recruitment decisions will not discriminate, whether consciously or unconsciously.

If you have any queries or are interested in finding out about opportunities at YSS please call Denise White on 07584 278741 or email [email protected].
