A brand new Worcestershire Young Carers Service

We are delighted to announce that YSS will continue to deliver Worcestershire Young Carers support until 2025. Therefore, throughout 2022, registered young carers will see a staged role out of our new service.

This will take a bit of time and we thank you for your patience while we get everything ready. We will update you regularly on our progress. In the meantime, please continue to get in touch with us, if you need any advice or support. You can call, email or message us on social media, but the best way to let us know how you are doing is by completing a Viewpoint Review.

What is a Young Carer or Young Adult Carer?

A young carer is a person aged between 6 and 17 who supports a family member at home beyond what is typical for their age. A young adult carer is someone aged between 18 and 25 who do the same. Usually family members need to be cared for because they have a disability, physical or mental health difficulties or it might be because they struggle with alcohol or drug addictions.

Do you think that you are a carer?

If you think that you are a young or young adult carer and would like to talk to a member of the team, please call us on 01905 619886. Alternatively you can scan the QR code or follow the link below to leave some details

What is Worcestershire Young Carers?

The Worcestershire Young Carers service (WYC) exists to support young people who have a care role out home and we do this in 3 key ways.

  1. we offer opportunities for young people to take a break from their care role, meet other young carers and have fun at the same time as helping them build their confidence, and learn new things.
  2. we work with other organisations (such as school) to ensure that young carers are building the best possible lives for themselves and they are actively working towards a positive future. A child’s responsibilities at home should not stop them achieving. Our staff and volunteers work one-one with our most vulnerable young people to support them to be emotionally well and successful.
  3. we raise awareness of the issues that young carers face. Locally, we talk to school staff and other children and families workers to ensure they are skilled around how to support young carers. Our Young Carers Participation Group enhances this by giving our young carers a voice to discuss issues that affect them.
