On Sunday 26 August YSS Senior Keyworker Andy Shaw tackled a challenge of endurance, riding from 7am to 7pm across challenging terrain on a motorbike, raising hundreds of pounds in the process, which will be used to support some of the most marginalised people in society.

Andy and his friend James entered the UK’s biggest endurance race, the ‘Dawn to Dusk Enduro’, to raise money for YSS’ Discretionary Distress Fund.

Andy said: “We decided to enter the 12 hour category and ride as a duo. Unfortunately the weather was against us which made the race even harder – it poured with rain the entire day, which made the track much more dangerous. I also had a mechanical issue with my bike which forced us to ride on one bike.

                

“Despite this though we got through the 12 hours and finished in 21^st place out of 140 teams. The race was extremely difficult – even painful at times – but we were very happy with the result, and even happier to have raised such a great amount of money for YSS!”

Originally hoping to raise £750, Andy soon smashed his target, reaching an incredible £830 sponsorship.

He added: “Thank you to everyone who donated! Your generous support will make an enormous difference to the service users YSS supports, who are often without even the basics in life.”
