About us Meet the team Our Staff OUR STAFF We have 50 paid staff at YSS which includes a strong and dedicated senior management team: Lorraine Preece – Chief Executive Officer: Lorraine had a 20 year banking career where she was a trainer; worked as a customer service manager in branch banking; and as a Barclaycard account manager. She moved to the voluntary sector in 2000, initially as the training manager and subsequently as centre manager for Relate Worcestershire. Lorraine joined YSS in 2003 when she was brought in to develop and implement a YSS volunteering strategy and to take the operational lead on an innovative, ESF-funded project called Connect. The project supported short-sentence prisoners on their release from prison, using volunteer mentors to help reintegrate and resettle the offenders into their communities. Lorraine became YSS Chief Executive Officer in 2014, having previously been Director of Operations and Development. Karen Moody – Finance Director: Karen Moody has been a qualified ACMA for almost 30 years. Most of her experience has been gained in the private sector where she has worked in a number of senior positions for a range of both manufacturing and service industries – International Computers Ltd(ICL); ERF Trucks; and Wedgewood Potteries. She joined YSS in 2006 in a part-time capacity and is now responsible for the management and development of all aspects of YSS financial systems; the management and development of YSS corporate support services, in respect of charity and company administration; HR administration; IT systems; property and accommodation management. Angela Parton – Operations Director: Angela has worked with, and managed services, for young people in both residential and youth justice settings for more than 30 years. Immediately prior to joining YSS she was Head of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Youth Offending Service. She worked in Liverpool in Youth Justice and Children’s Social Care for 17 years as a practitioner, manager and senior manager. She has a BA Hons from the University of Bradford in Interdisciplinary Human Studies (1980), and is a qualified registered Social Worker (Liverpool 1988). Angela takes the operational lead for safeguarding. Deborah Grantham-Operations Director: Debb relocated to Telford in 2000 after 22 years of accompanying her husband around the world on military duties. Previously she worked for the Ministry of Defence as an admin officer, but went on to specialise in Adult Learning, running an NVQ centre in Germany providing training and work placements for the families of soldiers. On her return to the UK, Debb worked for a private children’s home which specialised in working with young men at risk of, or having, perpetrated sexual offences. In 2003, Debb joined YSS in the newly-funded split role of Volunteer Co-ordinator and ICCP Officer across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. Debb has achieved IAG level 3; NVQ Level 4 Management; She went on to become Senior Volunteer Coordinator, Operations Manager and is currently YSS Operations Director, managing a wide variety of adult and young people’s projects across West Mercia. David Andrewartha - Operations Manager: Dave joined YSS in February 2007, Previously he played for Aston Villa FC for 9 years. Following his release at 19, Dave went to Loughborough university to study sport and exercise science. He then secured a coaching role with the Telford and Wrekin Council, before applying to become a Community Support Officer for the West Mercia Police covering the Bridgnorth area. During his time as a CSO, Dave spent time developing diversionary opportunities for the young people, this was an aspect of the role Dave had a real passion for. Dave initially joined YSS as an ISSP officer, ISSP is an intense court proposal sentenced to Young People at risk of going to custody. Since joining YSS Dave has progressed within the organisation and is now Operations Manager, taking the operational lead for adult criminal justice projects across West Mercia.
