The Rotary Club of Bewdley recently donated £300 to support young carers in Worcestershire.

The fundraising group held a charity golf day earlier this year, and chose Worcestershire Young Carers as one of 15 local charities to support.

Worcestershire Young Carers has been successfully delivered by independent charity YSS (Your Support Service) since 2003 and currently supports more than 450 young carers across the region every year. The caring role could be for a parent, sibling or grandparent due to illness, disability, physical or mental ill health or substance misuse.

As well as assessment, signposting and one-to-one support, the service also delivers regular clubs, trips and activities throughout the year; the recent October half-term saw a trip to Stoke-on-Trent’s Waterworld as well as two horse experience days.

Jon Cawdron, Worcestershire Young Carers Senior Project Coordinator, attended the Rotary Club’s presentation evening held on Tuesday 25 October and gratefully collected the cheque in person.

He said: “I was made to feel extremely welcome throughout the evening and learned a great deal about the fantastic work that Bewdley Rotary Club undertakes for the local community.

“We’re extremely grateful to receive such a generous donation, which will be used to help deliver a range of up and coming Christmas activities and parties, providing a great opportunity for young carers to get together, have some fun and enjoy a break away from their caring roles.”
